Ms. Allyson Huntsman

My name is Allyson Huntsman and this is my second year teaching at James Workman Middle School.  I teach 3 choirs, a 6th Grade Music Exploratory, and a 7th Grade Music Exploratory.

I was born and raised in Walnut Creek, California.  I began singing, taking piano lessons, and dancing when I was just 5 years old.  I performed lead roles in the following productions: “HMS Pinafore,”  “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Macbeth,” and “Once Upon a Mattress.”  In addition to performing at school, I was involved in a community children’s choir for 10 years.  I was given the opportunity to perform around the world at historic locations, and study with famous composers and directors.

While performing in a small cathedral in the heart of Paris, I heard the beautiful sound of our voices bouncing off of the stained glass windows, and I knew I wanted to spend my life directing choirs.

During High School, I joined the advanced choir, and was privileged to be a student conductor during my senior year.  In addition to singing, I was involved in the competitive dance and cheerleading programs.  At my High School graduation, I sang the song “The Way We Were” and received a scholarship to attend UCLA.

For the next 5 years, I worked towards earning my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from UCLA (GO BRUINS!).  I was extremely busy at school!  I sang with the UCLA chorale, studied voice privately, took a million classes, taught elementary violin classes, student taught at a Middle School in the Pacific Palisades, and earned my CLAD credential.

In my free time, I like to sing, play the guitar, go shopping, bake cupcakes, and spend time with friends.  I drink an absurd amount of coffee and diet cherry coke, and have a weakness for dark chocolate.

I love working at JWMS because of our amazing faculty and administration, and my incredibly talented students!
