LtCol Lewke was born on 24 October 1957 and grew up on his family’s dairy farm in southern Wisconsin. His father served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1976 and immediately enrolled in the University of Wisconsin in Madison. During the summers of 1978 and 1979, LtCol Lewke received training at the Marine Corps’ Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. He graduated with distinction from the University of Wisconsin in December of 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations. LtCol Lewke was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps during April of 1980.
He enrolled in the University of Wisconsin Law School during the fall of 1980 and graduated three years later. LtCol Lewke subsequently graduated from The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia and the Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island. He reported to his first duty station at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina during the fall of 1984. LtCol Lewke served as both a Defense Counsel and a Legal Assistance Attorney during this tour of duty.
LtCol Lewke reported to the Naval Legal Service Office in Naples, Italy during the fall of 1986. He subsequently served as a Defense Counsel, the Foreign Criminal Jurisdiction and Claims Officer, and as a Legal Assistance Attorney. Upon the completion of this tour of duty, LtCol Lewke returned to Quantico, Virginia and graduated from the Amphibious Warfare School during 1990.
He subsequently reported to Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, South Carolina and served as the Senior Defense Counsel and Legal Assistance Officer. LtCol Lewke transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina during 1991 and assumed the billet of Chief Trial Counsel (prosecutor) for the installation. Upon the completion of this tour of duty, he was sent to the Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia and obtained a LL.M in military law.
LtCol Lewke assumed the billet of Staff Judge Advocate at Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow, California during the fall of 1994. He transferred to Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California during the fall of 1998 and served as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate. While serving at Camp Pendleton, LtCol Lewke also served as the Executive Officer for the base’s Headquarters Battalion.
LtCol Lewke transferred to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, California during 2001 and served as the installation’s Staff Judge Advocate. His retirement from active duty became effective on 1 October 2003.
LtCol Lewke’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (with gold star in lieu of second award), the Navy Commendation Medal (with gold star in lieu of second award), and the Navy Achievement Medal. He is married to the former Josephine Nealon of Sale, Cheshire, England. They have three daughters (Tara, Alexandra, and Olivia) and currently reside in Cathedral City, California. LtCol Lewke is serving as the Senior Marine Instructor at the Marine Corps Junior ROTC Program in Desert Hot Springs High School and recently received a credential to teach social science courses in California public high schools.

Master Sergeant David Benoit was born on July 21, 1967 in Lafayette Louisiana. He graduated from Crowley High School and entered Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego, California in July 1986. Upon graduating Boot Camp, he reported for duty at Basic Food Service School, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. After graduation in December 1986, he reported for duty with 1st Tank Battalion 1st Marine Division Camp Pendleton California, where he served as a Cook on Watch. During his first tour he was promoted to Corporal.
In August of 1989 he received orders to 3rd Amphibious Assault Battalion, Okinawa, Japan where he served as Chief Cook. After 5 months, he volunteered to go to Operation Bear Hunt in South Korea. During his tour in Korea he served as Platoon Sergeant for the Food Service Company. He extended in South Korea for an additional two month to participate in Operation Team-Spirit, upon completion of the operations he returned to Okinawa Japan and received orders to Barstow California.
In August of 1990 Corporal Benoit reported for duty with Marine Corps Logistic Base Barstow California. He was promoted to Sergeant and served as Assistance Dining Facility Manager for the next 3 years.
In September 1993 Sergeant Benoit received orders to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, Okinawa, Japan where he served as Platoon Sergeant. While there Sergeant Benoit was selected for the Cook of the Quarter and the NCO of the Month, and received a Meritorious Mask.
In October 1994 Sergeant Benoit received orders to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. He served as a Quality Assurance Evaluator, and training NCO for his Food Service Company. He received orders in July 1997 to School of Infantry, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. He served as a troop handler for two years and was promoted to Staff Sergeant.
In March 1996 Staff Sergeant Benoit received orders to 1st Amphibious Assault Battalion Camp Pendleton California. There he served as Marine Corps Financial Management System Operator.
In November 2000 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and received orders to HeadQuarters Battalion Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton, where he served as Dining Facility Manager. He deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom during his tour.
In December of 2002q Gunnery Sergeant Benoit received orders to 14th Marines, at Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth Texas. There he served as Field Food Service Instructor and 1st Sergeant. He was promoted to Master Sergeant in July 2004.
In October 2004 Master Sergeant Benoit received order to 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division Camp Pendleton California where he served as Regimental Mess Chief and S-4 Logistic Chief for 3 years.
On November 2007, Master Sergeant Benoit retired from the United States Marine Corps and in August 2008 became a California Cadet Corps Instructor at Curtis Middle School in San Bernardino City Unified School District.
On November 2008, Master Sergeant Benoit (ret.) became the MCJROTC Military Instructor for Desert Hot Springs High School.
Master Sergeant Benoit personal awards include Navy Commendation Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal and the Humanitarian Medal.
He is married to the former Elizabeth Cochrane of San Bernardino, California. They have two children Elizabeth and Benjamin and currently reside in Rialto California.
